AVAILABILTITY AND UTILIZATION OF ELECTRONIC INFORMATION RESOURCES FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS’ SATISFACTION IN UNIVERSITY OF JOS

Abstract
The study investigated the available electronic information resources for utilization by undergraduate students’ satisfaction in University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. Two objectives and research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey design was adopted. 10,195 students that made up the Six Departments of Faculty of Education in University of Jos constituted the population of the study. A sample size of 510 registered undergraduate students was selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data was collected through the administration of a well-structured questionnaire. Reliability was established using Chronbach Alpha statistics with an alpha coefficient 97.0. Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) was used for data analysis. Major findings of the study revealed that, electronic information resources are available for use by the undergraduate students. Findings also indicate that, E-Books (2.73), E-Journals (3.25), Internet Resources like E-Mail (2.78), E-Magazines (3.07), Institutional Repository resources (e.g. E-Thesis/Dissertation like B.Sc. Ed/Masters Projects, Seminar papers, journals etc., 2.69), EBSCOHOST (3.44), AGORA (3.01), JSTOR (3.22), HINARI (3.01), OARE (2.79), TEEAL (3.01) and SCIENCE DIRECT (3.22) are utilised by the students. Based on the findings, the study concluded that, electronic resources are available in University of Jos Library and undergraduate students used electronic resources to obtain satisfaction and that, the students use most of the electronic resources. It was recommended that the University of Jos management subscribe to relevant educational databases and carry out retrospective conversion of the library’s print materials to digital format in order to increase online content for the students. Also, the University Library should ensure that sufficient networked computers and other facilities are provided for use by the undergraduate students.
